“The greatest fear of many Christian parents is not that their children will fail in life—but that they will succeed in life without Christ.”
Have You been Up at Night?
If you are the parent of a teenager or young adult, you know the feeling.
The questions often surface late at night when the house is quiet, and your mind begins to wander.
Will my child be okay?
Will they make wise decisions?
Will they find meaningful purpose in life?
Will they struggle with anxiety, loneliness, or depression?
Will they choose healthy friendships and relationships?
Will they navigate the pressures of culture and social media?
Will they succeed in college and their career?
These concerns are real and understandable. But for many Christian parents, another question lies beneath all the others:
Will my child continue following Jesus when they no longer live under my roof?
Parents often spend years preparing their children for college while unintentionally spending less time preparing them for a lifetime of discipleship.
The truth is that one day your child will make their own decisions. They will choose what they believe. They will determine whose voice matters most.
And when that day comes, every Christian parent hopes their child’s faith is not borrowed—but owned.
That is why the question, Do Your Children Believe?, is not merely a parenting question.
It is a legacy question.
The Parenting Success Trap
Imagine standing at your child’s college graduation.
Their name is announced. They graduate with honors. They have exciting opportunities ahead. Friends and family celebrate their accomplishments.
From every outward perspective, you have succeeded as a parent.
But then another question emerges:
Does my child know Christ?
Will they worship when no one requires it?
Will they seek God when life becomes difficult?
Will they build a Christ-centered marriage?
Will they teach their own children to follow Jesus?
At that moment, achievements suddenly feel secondary.
Because while education can shape a career, only Christ can transform a life.
The greatest measure of parenting success is not what our children accomplish.
It is who they become.
And more importantly, whose they become.
One Generation Matters
The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of passing faith from one generation to the next.
Judges 2:10 records one of Scripture’s most sobering statements:
“Another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.”
The tragedy was not simply that they forgot history.
The tragedy was that they lost their relationship with God.
Faith is never automatically transferred from one generation to another. Every generation must intentionally embrace Christ for themselves.
The stakes are enormous.
When one generation faithfully passes on its faith, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren can be impacted for decades. When discipleship is neglected, future generations can drift from God without even realizing it.
One generation truly matters.
